Laila Goodridge was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta in the Fort McMurray-Conklin by-election, which was held July 12, 2018. She was re-elected to represent the constituency of Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche on April 16, 2019. She was appointed Parliamentary Secretary for the Francophonie on June 23, 2019.
Ms. Goodridge currently serves as chair of the Standing Committee on Families and Communities and as a member of the Special Standing Committee on Members’ Services and the Select Special Democratic Accountability Committee. She was previously a member of the Standing Committee on Legislative Offices.
Prior to her election, Ms. Goodridge worked for Members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. She has also previously worked for the Minister of the Environment in Ottawa and spent almost five years working in the oil sands in Fort McMurray.
Ms. Goodridge’s community involvement has included a variety of roles within both provincial and federal political boards and she’s an active volunteer within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
She is fluent in French and holds a bachelor of arts degree from University of Alberta’s Campus Saint-Jean.
Ms. Goodridge was born and raised in Fort McMurray, the community she represents today, and has always been an advocate for Alberta’s energy sector. She enjoys baking, cooking, gardening and reading.
She was the 907th Member to be sworn in to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.

Earlier this week, I learned of a small number of people receiving advance payments from the Disaster Recovery Program, who were later asked to pay the money back.

Today, I had the opportunity to ask our Minister for Indigenous Relations Rick Wilson what initiatives Alberta’s Government has put forward to support Indigenous economic development and aid in our province’s economic recovery.
